Emotional Stability Practice
-

Held on the last Friday evening of each month, these sessions are incredibly stabilising for your emotions and clearing for your mind.
It is a highly accessible practice, and all general students are welcome to join.
There is something very special about this quiet practice, that leaves you feeling more solid and steady within yourself. The best way to understand it is to experience it for yourself — so come along and join us.

B.K.S. Iyengar designed this program to calm the mind, settle emotions, and restore energy. When your body is steady, your mind and emotions naturally find balance—making this practice the perfect support. View sequence and notes.
The practice isn’t about the session itself; it’s about creating a sense of steadiness and clarity that stays with you long after you finish.

Who Should Come Along
The Emotional Stability Program isn’t about holding inversions for long periods or having five years of Iyengar Yoga experience. If you’re a general student who has been attending classes at MYC for at least a year, that is a perfect starting point.
The next step is becoming familiar with the set-ups for the fifteen poses in the program. Hasu leads the class and manages the timings for each pose, but she does not teach the poses. You will need to be comfortable and confident with the poses and their set-ups before attending.
-
Guided Practice
Hasu leads this session for both online and in-studio, carefully managing the timings so you can fully immerse yourself in the practice and experience its benefits.
If you need to come out of a pose at any time, please feel free to do so — everyone in the room is working to their own capacity. The teacher guiding the session will be practising alongside you they are not teaching.
This is an important distinction: the teacher is not teaching the class, so you do need to be able to manage your own set ups.
-
When Is It On
Join us on the last Friday of each month at 6:00pm for this two hour class. Very occasionally this class will shift a week earlier.
This monthly class is also run online through MYC Iyengar Yoga Online.

What Pass Do I Need
If you are currently attending classes at MYC, this class is included in your existing pass or membership.
If you’re new to MYC, we recommend starting with our General classes to build a foundation before attending this class.
Beginners are not able to join this practice.
-
Personal Adjustments and Modifications
Everyone will be adapting some of the poses in the sequence to suit their own body and practice. The key is to remain in each pose for the allotted time, so choosing an alternative that allows you to stay comfortably and steadily is ideal.
We encourage you to look at the sequence beforehand so you can consider what will work best for you. Have a copy of the sequence with you as well.
If you’re unsure how to set yourself up in the poses, we’re running a workshop in May on how to approach the Emotional Stability Practice. Come along for guidance and clarity.
