What is involved
Our Teacher Development Program follows the Iyengar Yoga methodology as developed by B.K.S. Iyengar.
It is a structured 3-year course designed to help participants deepen their personal yoga practice while gaining the skills to practically apply this learning in teaching and guiding others on their yoga journey.
This program provides guidance, support, and opportunities for growth at every stage of your journey, whether your goal is personal development or teaching yoga professionally.

Eight weekends a year
Each year of the Teacher Development Program is made up of eight weekends.
Friday 6pm – 7.30pm
Saturday 2pm – 4pm
Sunday 10am – 12pm

What else do I need to do
In addition to the eight intensive weekends, participation in our Teacher Development Program involves:
Attending a minimum of one class per week with Simon (in-studio or online).
Completing reading and written assignments.
Committing to individual and group practices outside of the weekend sessions.

How the online learning works
Students attending online will take part in each weekend workshop via Zoom. In addition, online students are required to complete a block of in-person time at the studio, which will be arranged individually according to circumstances.
We have successfully supported overseas students to complete their training and sit for assessment.

Program pre-requisites
Students are required to have been practicing Iyengar Yoga for a minimum of three years prior to commencing the mentorship program.
If you are not an existing student of Marrickville Yoga Centre, we ask that you arrange a discussion with Hasu or Simon before registering.

Program costs
The cost to participate is $2,500 per year.
We offer an annual payment plan in three parts:
$500 to register
$1,000 before the first weekend
$1,000 before weekend 5
The program is flexible – you can take a break and return at any time, or join for the first year only if that suits your needs.

1st Year - Practice

Cultivating and developing your own personal asana and pranayama practice

Students will study given text, discussions and presentations as part of the learning
Understanding the use of props for practical and personal experience
Yoga therapy-Introduction to the basic principles of this approach to yoga.
Overview
Our first year will focus on you- learning to establish a solid personal practice, this will be the foundation for further development in your yoga journey. Students will deepen their experience of yoga through an in depth year of yoga practice. The study and understanding of Yoga Philosophy and texts will help frame this personal yoga journey. Yoga therapy opens students' minds to the possibility and healing powers of yoga. In the first year students will start to learn the basic principles of Yoga therapy. Students will learn to apply this knowledge for their healing process. Learning with others and building a strong sense of yoga community for your support and growth is a wonderful aspect of study at Marrickville Yoga centre.

2nd Year - Observation & Application
Areas of Study
Starting to articulate an observation of the self
Observing each other through practice, opportunities to observe classes at the centre.
Adjustments, simple hands on adjusting of colleagues and learning to adjust with instruction.
First steps into practical, clear teaching in the Iyengar yoga method.
Yoga Therapy- simple conditions are explored ,learning modifications and how to apply to your own practice.
Overview
2nd year students will be grounded with a solid base of practice after the first year.The 2nd year of study will start to evolve into application. Learning a language of experience to help you teach. Students will start to develop the skills of observation ,learning to see is a fundamental skill of a good teacher. Students will observe others in asana ,students in classes, and students in therapy classes. Adjustment is a key area of teaching within Iyengar Yoga, these skills need to be clearly defined and highly developed, students will start this process by learning to adjust to each other.Yoga therapy trainees will explore this field with more depth and start to work and help in our Yoga therapy classes offered at the centre.

Overview
The third year will focus on developing and refining the skills of teaching in the Iyengar method. Students' teaching skills will be closely monitored and guided through many hours of practice teaching. Students will spend more time assisting and observing classes. In this year trainees will continue to be actively working in the Yoga Therapy classes. Trainees will be expected to maintain a consistent level of both self practice, group practice and attendance in class. Trainees will have a number of more detailed Yoga Philosophy assignments to complete requiring self directed research.
