Teacher Mentoring Program 2026

Teacher Mentoring Program Details

  • Purpose

The Teacher Mentoring Program is a professional development program for certified Iyengar Yoga teachers. This annual program runs throughout the year, and 2026 will be its third year of delivery, with each year focusing on a different theme.

Each year is a separate program, so you are welcome to join in 2026.

Ready to deepen your practice and elevate your teaching? This program is for you.

  • Teacher of teachers

Simon Joannou has been an Iyengar practitioner for 30 years. He has studied with the Iyengar Family and is a certified Iyengar Yoga Level 3 Teacher.

Simon has been the Principal Teacher of MYC since it opened in 2007. He has been training and mentoring teachers for over 15 years.

He is also an assessor and moderator for the Australian Iyengar Yoga Association.

  • Program goals

Under the guidance of Simon, the program allows you to explore your understanding of Iyengar Yoga, reflect on your personal practice, and develop further in your teaching.

It also provides a supportive space to ask questions, receive feedback, and refine your approach to being an Iyengar Yoga Teacher.

Additionally, the mentorship can help you prepare for your next level of assessment.

  • One on one coaching

Simon will meet one-on-one with each teacher between workshops. These sessions provide an opportunity to set goals, ask questions, and receive personalised guidance.

The mentoring is tailored to each participant, with individual programs developed and refined through monthly one-on-one coaching conversations. Each program is unique—designed to meet the specific needs and goals of each teacher.

A structured program of practice and teaching is developed to support ongoing learning and professional development throughout the mentorship.

  • In person and online

Each year, teachers from across Australia and around the world join the Teacher Mentorship Program, delivered both in our Marrickville studio and online.

Group sessions are recorded and made available to participants for later review. In addition, there is a program-specific Padlet where participants can share thoughts, insights, and resources as a group, supporting connection and collaborative learning

  • Structure for 2026

Over six Saturday sessions, two will focus on yoga therapy, two on teaching, and two on practice.

In addition, there will be two Friday sessions dedicated to yoga therapy. These sessions align with our new Yoga Therapy Training Program, and Teacher Mentoring students will also participate at no additional cost.

While each year’s program is unique, many topics are revisited and expanded upon, allowing participants to deepen their understanding and continue developing their knowledge and skills.

Teachers are expected to commit to attending at least 80% of the sessions.

Please consider the dates and the level of commitment required, and feel free to reach out to discuss any questions or specific needs.

  • Cost of the program

The full cost of the Teacher Mentorship Program is $1,000 AUD.

You can choose to pay in full before the program begins, or split the payment into two instalments: an initial payment of $600 at registration, followed by a second payment of $400 at the midpoint of the year.
