  • The purpose of this Teacher Mentorship Program is a professional development program to provide individual support and guidance to certified Iyengar Yoga teachers, who are looking to gradually deepen and develop their own yoga practice.   • Marrickville Yoga Centre

    Marrickville Yoga Centre is made up of a vibrant community of teachers, practitioners and dedicated students. A full diverse timetable of classes for all levels of students. MYC has an extensive Yoga therapy program providing the opportunity for assisting in weekly therapy classes. It also runs an international online Yoga school delivering daily classes, specialty workshops and training programs in Yoga therapy.

    Marrickville Yoga Centre has a long history of sharing knowledge, and working with selected respected teachers we know from around the world. MYC has created and developed an inclusive and welcoming environment.

    Students will be encouraged to spend blocks of time at Marrickville Yoga Centre.

  • Simon Joannou

    Simon Joannou has been practising Iyengar Yoga for over 25 years and has studied with Iyengar Family for over 20 years, is a certified Iyengar Yoga Level 3 teacher. Simon has been the principal of Marrickville Yoga centre for over 15 years. Simon has had extensive training and experience in the area of Yoga therapy working closely with Stephanie Quirk for many years.

    Simon has run teacher training and mentoring programs for 12 years.

    Simon is an experienced assessor as well as being a moderator for the Australian Iyengar Yoga Association.

  • Who is this program for?

    This mentorship program is designed for certified Iyengar yoga teachers who are ready to further develop their practice, their teaching, and their understanding of the methodology of Iyengar yoga.

  • How does it work?

    Each program will be unique to the individual teachers' needs.

    Teachers will meet with Simon to discuss their goals in regards to developing their practice and teaching. Working together, a program of study will be developed together to support this learning program.

  • What's involved?

    • Monthly a 30 minute consultation.

    • Monthly presentation of either teaching or practice (live at the studio or via video).

    • Feedback by Simon will be provided on each of these sessions, with what to work on or develop.

    • Every two months Teachers in groups will present to the mentoring group assignments either live at the studio or online.

    • Students will need to complete a number of online modules during the nine months.

    • Teachers will need to keep records of their practice programs.

    • The program runs from March till November.

    • The teaching, practising and presentation segments will generally be held on Saturday afternoons from 4pm.

  • What topics are covered?

    • Developing your Yoga practice.

    • Yoga therapy.

    • Teaching process.

    • Observation in teaching.

    • Yoga philosophy.

    • Teaching and practising pranayama.

    • Teaching specialist classes.

    • Level 2 and 3 syllabus.

  • What are the costs?

    • The full cost for the year is $1,000.

    • An initial payment of $400 is required to register.

    • A further 2 payments of $300 are required throughout the year.

  • What are the dates for 2024?

    Saturday afternoons 4pm onwards on the following dates:

    • March 23rd 2024.

    • April 27th 2024.

    • May 11th 2024.

    • June 8th 2024.

    • July 6th 2024.

    • August 10th 2024.

    • September 7th 2024.

    • October 19th 2024.

    • November 23rd 2024.
