Class Types

  • General

    General classes are for students with yoga experience. Students will work with inversions such as Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand) and Sirsasana (Headstand). It is expected that students will have at least a year of experience before attending these classes. These classes are not suitable for students new to Yoga.

  • Foundation

    Foundation classes are also suitable for students who have done some Yoga before, who may not have practiced for some time or are new to Iyengar yoga. These classes focus on developing and consolidating a foundation for a good yoga practice. Students will learn how to do inversions correctly at this level. After completing a beginner course students will move into Foundation classes. Regular attendance of these classes will prepare students well to enter the General classes.

  • Beginner

    Learn Yoga in a dedicated yoga space with simple, clear instructions. These courses provide structured step-by-step learning, designed to teach the foundations of Yoga. Perfect for anyone who has no prior experience and is looking to start Yoga. Our beginners course are not suitable if you have chronic issues or major injuries.   • Seniors

    Seniors classes are intended for students aged 60 and above and are specially designed to provide a safe space for senior students looking for an effective way to enhance physical health and overall wellness. Moving the body consciously to bring mobility and stability. In these classes we are building balance, courage and strength. These classes are suitable for students new to Yoga.   • Dynamic Class

    A fast moving style of class building strength in the body, physical stamina and flexibility. The intent of a dynamic class is to warm up the body and get extension by moving between quickly between poses. This class will generally including jumping in / out of poses. These classes are suitable for students from Foundation level and above. They are not suitable for students new to Yoga or those working with Injuries.

  • Early Rise

    This 45 minute dynamic class is ideal for students who love to get up and have an early start to their day. Opening the chest and waking the mind before your day starts. There is no better way to start your day. If you haven’t tried an early morning Yoga class, we highly recommend that you give it a go. These classes are suitable for students from Foundation level and above. They are not suitable for students new to Yoga.

  • Led Practice

    Led Practices are for experienced students only and familiarity with inversions is essential. Ideal for students who have been attending classes at MYC regularly for a number of years. With a Led Practice, the teacher is practicing and the students are following. Students should email or speak to your teacher before attending.

    We have 3 led practices in the schedule:

    • Hips - to open up the hips.

    • Backbends - to open up the front of the body and energise you.

    • Dynamic - to open up the body and energise you through active movement.

  • Yoga Therapy

    These are specialised classes on Friday and Saturdays available for individual needs, ideal for students working with injuries or medical conditions. Bookings are essential.

    We also offer a neck and shoulders class, the back care and the restorative class throughout the week.

  • Neck & Shoulders

    This class is part of the strong yoga therapy program that runs throughout the centre. This class is taught by highly trained teachers in the application of yoga therapy. We use a specialised program and props to help students who suffer from neck & shoulder issues. It is a gentle paced and well supported class. Suitable to all level of student including those with no yoga experience.

  • Backcare

    This class is part of the strong yoga therapy program that runs throughout the centre. This class is taught by highly trained teachers in the application of yoga therapy. We use a specialised program and props to help students who suffer from common back issues. It is a gentle paced and well supported class. Suitable to all level of student including those with no yoga experience.

  • Restorative

    The Restorative classes are designed to help bring a balance to the mind and body. A good class for those feeling stressed or exhausted, this is a quieter and slower paced class. These classes are suitable for all level of students.

  • All of our teachers are certified Iyengar Yoga teachers or are in the process of completing their mentorship at our yoga school through the teacher mentoring program that we run.

  • We have a number of different class packs available including concessional rates for students on low incomes. Students can also purchase individual class passes.
