‘Yoga illuminates your life. If you practise sincerely, with seriousness and honesty, its light will spread to all aspects of your life.’

At Marrickville Yoga Centre we’re lucky to be in one of the most vibrant and diverse communities in inner Sydney. This means we’re often welcoming new students and farewelling those who are moving on.
Moving away from your regular yoga studio, teacher or routine doesn’t have to interfere with your yoga practice. In fact it can be an important, productive new beginning.
With that in mind, here are three benefits of yoga for those on the move:
Yoga stems the feelings of pain, doubt and confusion that afflict us from time to time. Moving may bring up difficult emotions as things change – but yoga is all about change. Part of the benefit of yoga is that it strengthens our capacity to deal with the rhythms of life.
At times of significant change, yoga can help create a sense of steadiness. Yoga restores the mind to simplicity, peace and poise so that even as everything moves around you, you can keep steady.
It’s easy to feel insecure in a world that’s moving a million miles an hour, where a sense of turmoil and chaos seems to be the never-ending state of things. The thing about yoga is it puts you in your place: right there on the mat. When you’re standing on your head it doesn’t much matter if you’re in Amsterdam or Adelaide – you’re still where you are, on your head.
If you’re moving away, take yoga with you.
And don’t forget to let us know how you’re getting on.
